I learned a new word today, from this 1993 book on free speech: bluenose. A bluenose is a ‘person who advocates a rigorous moral code’ (Merriam Webster). They are the puritans of the past and the social justice warriors of 2018. Coincidentally I also came across an article about how lying freezes your nose: Researchers at the University of Granada found that when a person lies, “the temperature of the tip of the nose drops between 0.6 and 1.2 ºC, while that of the forehead rises between 0.6 and 1.5 ºC.”

After eight years of travelling through conflict and poverty zones, Marijn Poels – a progressive Dutch filmmaker/journalist – decides to take some time off in the Austrian mountains. During this period he is confronted with the personal stories of small farmers, the roots of agriculture and its modern day perspective. Globalisation and climate politics mean farmers have to adjust to radical changes, many become energy suppliers.

Greetings from the far-away island of Europe. Just letting you know that the people here also watched Donald Trumps speech at the UN General Assembly yesterday. But of course we don’t (get to) think much of it, considering that shots already have been fired from France, from Merkel-backed surrender monkey Emmanuel Macron:

This recent letter from a concerned citizen was written to German politician and publicist Vera Lengsfeld (1952) and published on her website. Lengsfeld was a prominent civil rights activist (put under Stasi-observations) in former East Germany. More recently she was the initiator of ‘Die Gemeinsame Erklärung 2018’ – the ‘Joint Statement 2018’ – where she and about six dozen other German intellectuals called for law and order at the borders and an open debate without fear about mass-immigration in Germany. It was signed openly by over 165.000 people (from all walks of live) and presented to the government – but quickly framed as ‘far-right’.
